!!!God is good!!! All the time!!! All the time!!! God is good!!!
Pentecost Sunday is the day that we rejoice in the birthday of our Church, and in the power of God working in that Church. The first reading and the Gospel show us that the Holy Spirit is the New Law, the force that leads the human person to do good, from within the heart. The Holy Spirit also empowers us to speak a language that everybody can understand, and that is the language of love. The Spirit is the source of unity (it pulls down barriers) and forms a new family where all can understand and love each other.
The second reading gives us the consequence of the presence of the Spirit in a community. Every member is enriched by the gifts of the same Spirit, gifts that are to be used to build up the Body, the Church, which leads to fulfilling the Church’s mission, that is, the proclamation of Jesus as Lord, and God’s love for each one of us.
Even though there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, they come from the same Spirit, and so they must not be sources of competition, but must be put at the service of unity. The Spirit makes us one in Christ, empowering us to do Christ’s work – forgiving, reconciling and bringing God’s loving care to others.
Let us pray the Holy Spirit to reveal the gifts He has given to us and show us how we can use these gifts for the good of others.
